Soft G
Read to the child: The G is soft, meaning it makes a /J/ sound ( as in GEM), when it comes before an E, I, or Y.
Write the following words on the board : GYM, GEL, GOLF , GAME , GIANT. Have the child point to each word, read the word, say if the G is soft or hard.
Note: There are exceptions to this rule, such as GIFT, GER
