 Ending double consonant like ff, ss, ll, zz sound just f, s, l or z

Floss spelling rule: At the end of one- syllable words, usually double S, L, F, or Z when they come right after a short vowel.

The word GRASS is a one-syllable word and letter s come right after short vowel a. That is why we double letter s at the end of the word.

The word MARCUS has two syllable has two syllable. That is why we don't double letter s at the end of the word  the word.

The word LEAF is a one-syllable word but letter f come after a vowel team. That is why we don't double letter f at the end of the word.

The word WOLF is a one-syllable word but letter f come right after a consonant I. That is why we don't double letter f at the end of the word
